I like Winsor McCay's Little Nemo in Slumberland comic strips a lot. Ever since I found out that the whole thing went public domain in 2005, I wanted to work on my own rendition of little Nemo.
Those who know the original comic will recognize the last panel as a direct homage to McCay's work. Of course the rest is heavily inspired by the wonderful Shadow of the Colossus.
Hopefully this is only the first of many. If time allows, I would like to do more of these!
Hehe, this is amazing. Have you seen the animated movie??? It's great! You've managed to flawlessly splice two of my favorite things together, nice job.

I think while the animated movie isn't very faithful to the original comics, it's still cute and enjoyable. I actually almost drew Nemo with big eyes as seen in the movie version but changed my mind in the last minute and decided to go for the button pupils from McCay's work.
Except today, they'd probably force feed him Ritalin to crush his dreams and creativity so he could force all the pointless memorization in school to face a productive adult life of bitter competition and uncertainty.
I LOVE Little Nemo in Slumberland. It is one of those strips I consider one of my study-basics, along with Walt Kelly's Pogo and anything by Chuck Jones and Tex Avery.
Oddly, your style is more like the Nemos of the 20s and 30s when Robert McCay joined his father in doing the strips, and he brought the characters closer in to the viewers (up until then, Nemo and his friends were always shown in full-body). His father was certainly a draftsman, and complained about his son's style covering up his work.
You're better off doing the McCay version anyway - I never could get over seeing Nemo in the anime style TMS did, even though I am a TMS fan (and oddly enough, those versions of the characters are still copyrighted).
