Artist's Comments

I'm a big fan of old fairy tales; that's why I couldn't pass up on the chance of illustrating Jack and the Beanstalk when I saw it was this week's topic at Art Jumble.

I wanted to give my giant a more aristocratic look than what you usually see. The guy's got a magic hen, a talking harp to do his bidding, and a magnificent castle to call home -- he just didn't give me the impression of an unsophisticated oaf. And I must admit I had a lot of fun drawing a big ogre with a monocle!

Jack and the Beanstalk by =chibiniko is an amazing piece of art, the color scheme and excellent composition gives the right feeling to both panels. A great sense of adventure seen through this amazing deviation. (Suggested by ~Basmah999 and Featured by ^Thiefoworld)

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one...

Haha this is such a wonderful piece and it brings back some good memories of when my mom read this story to me when I was a kid.

The coloring is excellent. What program did you use?

I loved seeing your interpretation of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' ! I'd love to see more

Now this was one fairy tale that always left me complaining! It never quite felt right! Little bratty Jack sneaks into a poor giant's house, steals his money, hen, and harp(!), murders the poor giant who only wanted his property back (and to give Jack the punishment he was due!) and then in the end is hailed as a hero?! Injustice! X(

But your version is gorgeous! I love the beanstalk particularly! It's actually really reminding me of one that was in this book of mine when I was a kid, only with a much nicer perspective! And your ogre/giant is nicer too!

I don't know, when I saw that ogre's face, I instantly thought of Planet of the Apes. Very interesting interpretation though, I must say. =)

Excellent! Excellent range of depth in the foreground vs. the background elements!

Lately I've been using Photoshop CS2 almost exclusively; it's been months since I even launched Painter IX.
